Former German training ship Georg Buchner sank under suspicious circumstances
Former German training ship Georg Buchner sank while under tow under suspicious circumstances in Baltic sea off Gdansk on May 30 13 citing schiffe-und-kreuzfahrten.de. Vessel was under tow of Polish tug Ajaks to be towed to Klaipeda for dismantling. Some kind of foul play is suspect, as Gerog Buchner was insured before the towage for quite unusual sum of four million Euros. Investigation under way. Georg Buchner was a former German Merchant Marine training/cargo ship built in Rostock in 1950, IMO 5068863, displacement 10901. Tug Ajaks was chartered by the Cuxhaven company Otto Wulf GmbH & Co. KG.
