General cargo vessel Anja collided with a pier, Elbe

General cargo vessel Anja collided with a pier in Buetzfleth port, Elbe, halfway between Brunsbuettel and Hamburg, in the morning Oct 11. It is understood, that vessel was proceeding to pier with pilot on board and assisting tug. Vessel contacted pier by aft part, suffering two meter breach above waterline in stern area. Strong current and maneuvering mistakes blamed for the accident. Damage is estimated to be of some 500,000 euro, it may be assumed then, that the pier suffered some serious damages, too.
