Zahro Express tragedy UPDATE

Zahro Express tragedy Jan 01 2230 Jakarta time UPDATE: 194 people reported rescued, 23 died, 17 missing, 17 injured.

Passenger vessel ZAHRO EXPRESS with around 100 passengers caught fire in the morning Jan 1 while en route from Jakarta to Tidung Island, Thosuand Islands, some 50 nm northwest of Jakarta. Judging from photo, vessel was engulfed in flames, some passengers jumped into sea and swam ashore to nearby islands, other understood to be rescued by SAR boat or boats. At least one person died, situation still unclear. No data found on ZAHRO EXPRESS. It’s a passenger vessel of 200 passengers capacity, Indonesia-flagged.
