Hapless MOSVIK ran into new trouble
Hapless freighter MOSVIK ran into new trouble barely out of old one – on July 17 she collided with ro-ro ramp in Kiel, while shifting berth. Engine failed to switch to astern speed from ahead, and as a result, vessel collided with ramp at some 1.5-2.0 speed, inflicting serious damages.
July 14 accident:
MOSVIK critically listed, part of cargo lost, Kiel locks closed
General cargo vessel MOSVIK developed a heavy list portside in Kiel Bay on July 14, on arrival from Riga Latvia with cargo of wood. Part of deck cargo went overboard, Kiel locks closed until all lost logs are recovered. Accident was caused by faulty ballasting – crew emptied ballast tanks in order to reduce draft, vessel lost stability while maneuvering.
