USS JOHN S. MCCAIN vs. tanker ALNIC MC – same scenario, as with USS FITZGERALD

US Navy destroyer JOHN S. MCCAIN collided with product tanker ALNIC MC at 0524 Singapore time (UTC+08.00) Aug 21 (2124 UTC Aug 20) in South China sea in vicinity 01 25N 104 25 E, some 10 nm east of Singapore Straits, 30 nm off Singapore. Tanker and destroyer were both under way heading to Singapore, with tanker most probably being in ballast. Ten U.S. Navy sailors are missing and five have been injured. Destroyer suffered aft port side damages, no reports on tanker’s damages as of 0230 UTC Aug 21. Latest tanker’s AIS dated 2330 UTC Aug 20, either drifting or moving dead slow ahed, most probably drifting.

Tanker Update: Tanker was carrying some 11,987 ton of fuel oil, hull not ruptured, no leak, propulsion said to be damaged.

Comment:
Collision occurred during nighttime or at dawn, and again, like in USS FITZGERALD vs. ACX CRYSTAL June collision, it’s a missing Navy’s AIS signal, it’s nighttime, it’s a big, slow and clumsy merchant ship with at most, 3 persons on bridge, against sleek, fast and in theory, full of sailors on watch, both visually and on electronics, Navy ship.
Presumably, destroyer was either trying to overtake tanker, or cross her course.
Presumably, Navy is again, like in USS FITZGERALD vs. ACX CRYSTAL and in Russian Navy ship LIMAN vs. Lebanese live stock carrier YOUZARSIF H accidents, most to blame, read: “Two major accidents with US and Russian Navy ships in less than two months: more to come”
