Bulk carrier collision on Weser, Brake, heavy damages

Bulk carrier MOUNT HOPE collided with pier and moored barge at 0440 LT Nov 11 at Brake, Weser river, inflicting heavy damages both to pier and to itself. Bulk carrier suffered hull breach and water ingress, pier is partially destroyed. Vessel was berthed at nearby pier, where engine teams started to pump out water from damaged compartments. Vessel was proceeding upstream to Bremen with pilot on board, but suffered steering failure, veered off fairway and collided with pier. Vessel is en route from Tubarao Brazil, meaning she’s in load. As of 1530 UTC Nov 11, MOUNT HOPE was still berthed at Brake. Photo Bild.de
