Ferry fire, Gulf of Naples

Fire erupted in engine room of ferry DRIADE in Gulf of Naples, between Ischia and Procida islands, in the afternoon Dec 5, during ferry’s scheduled trip from Naples to Ischia and Procida. Coast Guard evacuated passengers, said to be few people. Crew meanwhile, sealed engine room and extinguished fire, understood by activating fire extinguishing system. Vessel nevertheless, was disabled, and had to be towed to Naples, arriving there around midnight same day.
