Freighter aground, Taiwan
General cargo ship FUCHUN 688 on Dec 8 ran aground on a coast in Changhua city area, central Taiwan, Taiwain Strait. Understood refloating delayed until all fuel, some 4 tons, will be siphoned, in order to avoid possible pollution, with ship’s hull probably being breached. 8 crew, including Chinese Master and 7 Indonesians, is safe. Hong Kong based shipowner is to come to Taiwan to coordinate salvage plan with maritime officials. Reportedly, FUCHUN 688 was beached in stormy weather, being unable to hold against heavy swell.
