MOL’s Capesize bulk carrier stuck for 2 weeks refloated
Dec 27: CENTAURUS DREAM was refloated on Dec 20 or 21, and anchored. According to latest AIS dated Dec 27, she was berthed at Cilegon Pesco terminal.
Dec 19: Lightering under way, salvors and owner fear structure strength could be compromised. Some 12 vessels reportedly deployed in salvage, including offshore tug or tugs, port tugs, floating crane and barge. Lightering started on Dec 16, about 20000 tons of ore are to be offloaded until Dec 23, and after that, salvors will try to refloat CENTAURUS DREAM to take her to POSCO. Fuel tanks weren’t breached so far.
Dec 8: Vessel still aground, judging from latest photo may suffer breach and water ingress, she developed portside list and heavy stern tilt.
Dec 7: Capesize ore carrier CENTAURUS DREAM ran aground in the morning Dec 7 on arrival from Australia with cargo of ore off Ciwandan, Cilegon, westernmost Java, Sunda Strait. Vessel was to be docked at KBS Pesco terminal Cilegon. Grounding said to be caused by strong current (probably by failing coordination or communication with tug), there was pilot on board. As of 1730 UTC Dec 7 status unknown, believe to be still aground, hull breach mentioned as possible outcome.
