Cargo ship with cargo of wheat sank in Greece waters, crew rescued UPDATE

Aug 28 1900 UTC UPDATE: SEA BIRD sank after her hull was breached when she struck rocks of small Vrak. Karavi islets. She didn’t ground on rocks or islet itself and moved away, according to track.

General cargo ship SEA BIRD reportedly sank in Sea of Crete east of Peloponnese peninsula, Greece, early in the morning Aug 28. The ship was en route from Ukraine to Tunisia with 7,000 tons of wheat on board. Large-scale SAR was launched, all 16 Syrian crew said to be rescued, safe.
The ship sank, no more details are given. General cargo ship HAYA being a Comoros-flagged ship took part in SAR. SEA BIRD last AIS signal dates 0020 UTC Aug 28.
