World’s most sustainable FPSO, Liza unity to reach Guyana

The ExxonMobil commissioned Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel Liza Unity will be soon reaching Guyana. The Dutch floater specialists, SBM Offshore was given the contract to construct, install and operate the vessel for two years. The 2019 built vessel is now being supplied by SBM Offshore for production at the Liza II oil field. The agency had announced on 9th September that Liza Unity had left Keppel Shipyard in Singapore and headed to Guyana. The FPSO will be arriving by 26th October at Georgetown, Guyana. Upon arrival at the Liza field, the vessel will be hooked to the seabed and then the installation of risers and umbilical will be started.

The FPSO has a production capacity of 220,000 b/d along with a gas treatment capacity of 400 MMcfd and a water injection capacity of 250,000 b/d. The storage capacity of the vessel is approximately 2 million barrels of crude oil. The vessel will be moored in water where the depth would be about 1600m. Olivier Icyk, Managing Director, Floating Production Solutions, SBM had expressed his joy over the departure of the vessel and said that he looks forward to working closely with the client ExxonMobile to ensure a successful start of production.

As per the statement released by SBM Offshore, ABS has awarded Liza Unity with SUSTAIN-1 notation. This simply means that the design and the construction of Liza Unity has been assessed by the classification society and was found to be in compliance with the requirements of ABS Guide for Sustainability Notations, which itself are in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

As per the data collected by FleetMon, the vessel left Singapore Anchorage on 3rd September 2021. The last collected data shows the vessel to be sailing near South Africa at a speed of 9.4 knots. Sailing under the Bahamas flag, Liza Unity with a draught of 7.9m is expected to arrive at Georgetown, Guyana by 26th October 2021. She is towed and escorted by the three tugs ALP Guard, ALP Defender and ALP Centre.
