Chinese freighter disabled by explosion, fire, 1 crew injured

Cargo ship HUATONG99 suffered explosion and fire in engine room on Nov 28 in Bohai sea some 62 nm northwest of Penglai, China, and issued distress signal, reporting one crew in need of medical emergency. Engine room was sealed and understood, firefighting system activated, the ship was disabled. MRCC Beihai sent SAR ship, and helicopter to medevac crew member, who suffered serious burns. Injured seaman was transported to hospital. Though fire has been extinguished, the ship remained disabled. She was taken on tow and towed to Caofeidian, Tianjin, where she arrived on Nov 29.
