Port of Duisburg Welcomes Hydrogen Service Provider “Plug Power”
Plug Power, the hydrogen solutions provider, has decided to set up its new European headquarters at the Port of Duisburg. The new location will allow the company to capitalize on the significant assets present in the Duisburg region. The industrial area of Duisburg has a high number of logistics and transport customers along with a skilled workforce. Power Plug will get direct maritime supply chain access to Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Antwerp in Belgium.
The new headquarters will be spread over 70,000 square feet of space. They will have an innovation center with engineering labs, a diagnostic, monitoring, tech-support, a training space, an on-site electrolyzer for hydrogen production, and a logistics and inventory center. The port can accommodate future expansions later when the company initiates its growth plan in Europe.
Andy March, CEO of Plug Power, said that the company intends to become an essential player in the green hydrogen development in Europe and will add significantly to the European hydrogen strategy. Andy further added that the headquarters at Port of Duisburg would support the company’s objectives to develop a global green hydrogen ecosystem.
CEO of the Port of Duisburg, Markus Bangen, welcomed Plug Power and expressed his pleasure over the announcement of Plug Power’s new European headquarter. Markus said that in the future, and it is already an essential element for the industries in the North Rhine-Westphalia and Port of Duisburg. Therefore efforts for the advancement and development of this location as the center of hydrogen in Germany are always welcomed. He said that the port had placed efforts to establish a climate-neutral transport structure and shape the energy transition in the logistic and transport sector of the region.
