Passenger ship with 322 passengers disabled by fire, adrift in Laccadive sea

Passenger cargo ship MV KAVARATTI suffered fire in engine room at around noon LT Dec 1 in Laccadive sea, off southwest India, while en route from Kavaratti island to islands of Androth and Kadmat, Lakshadweep, with 322 passengers on board. Fire reportedly, is extinguished, but the ship is disabled, adrift some 30 nm NE of Kavaratti, waiting for assistance. Coast Guard already dispatched a vessel, understood SAR tug.
