Tanker disabled in Pentalnd Firth strait, towed to safety UPDATE no towage
Jan 23 UPDATE: I’ve received a letter from reader, with KAPRIFOL accident details:
I read your report on Fleetmon and I just wanted to let you know that The Ievoli Black actually never took the Kaprifol in tow. The Kaprifol sailed on low power to Scrabster Bay as it's turbocharger had failed and is currently waiting on spare parts to be delivered.
At first when the Kaprifol broke down they said they needed to change a cylinder head and it would take 4 hours but after testing the engine after that they said about the turbocharger and that they would head to Scrabster at low power once the tide turned. Shetland coastguard wanted the Ievoli to stand by in case it was needed but it wasn't.
Jan 22: Product tanker KAPRIFOL suffered engine failure in the afternoon Jan 21 in Pentalnd Firth strait, NE of Dunnet Head, Scotland, while en route from Killeybegs Ireland to Egersund, Norway. Tanker had to anchor, to stop drifting towards coast just 2 nm away. She was taken on tow by offshore tug IEVOLI BLACK (IMO 9439242) and towed to anchorage Scrabster anchorage, where she was anchored in the morning Jan 22.
