SCF Aframax tanker banned from entering UK port amid public protests
Sovcomflot Aframax crude oil tanker NS CHAMPION is to call Port of Flotta Terminal, Scapa Flow, Orkney islands, UK, but as of 1800 UTC Feb 27 it isn’t yet clear, if tanker will be allowed to make this call. Alistair Carmichael MP has written to the Prime Minister calling for the UK Government to deny Russian ships access to UK ports after the invasion of Ukraine. A petition “Stop Russian trade vessels docking in UK ports” went live on Feb 26 calling on the UK Government and Boris Johnson to act to halt the ship docking in Flotta, and has gathered close to 500 signatures.
Tanker sailed Pentland Firth, bypassing fairway to Flotta and pilot station, sailed into North sea and as of 1800 UTC, was cruising at slow speed of some 5 knots, some 30-35 nm east of Scapa Flow, with new ETA Mar 2, (initial ETA Feb 28).
