MSC Partners up With Kongsberg Digital for the Digitalization of Its Ships

Kongsberg Digital, the Norway-based digital solutions company, has partnered with MSC, the Swiss container shipping company, to digitalize MSC’s fleet.

They have signed an agreement to this end, stipulating that MSC’s entire fleet of vessels, which amounts to more than 500 vessels, is to be digitized.

The five-year contract involves delivering infrastructure service “Vessel Insight” to MSC’s box ships. Hege Skryseth, President of Kongsberg Digital, has stated that with the installation of this system, MSC can contextualize the data that is being created by their vessels. This data will be accessible via the ship-to-cloud infrastructure, allowing MSC not only to remain apprised of the condition of its ships but also to be able to utilize the data optimally. With this, MSC will be able to reduce emissions and optimize operations across its entire fleet, along with being better equipped to ensure the safety of its crew.

Gianluigi de Maio, SVP, Manager of fleet network terminal MSC, has stated that this contract is of great value to MSC as one of its top priorities is to run a more environmentally sustainable operation. He added that with the increasing pressure by Maritime authorities to cut emissions and operate within requirements, signing this contract is a significant step towards greener operations.
