​ Experimental sustainable solar yacht on fire, crew evacuated

Solar yacht PORRIMA caught fire early in the morning Aug 12 off Mandwa, south of Mumbai, India, while en route to Maldives from UAE via Mumbai. 5 crew were rescued by Indian CG and transferred to hospital, no information on boat status and condition.

MS Porrima is a Swiss experimental ship that runs solely on renewables: solar, wind, and hydrogen power. It is currently sailing around the world, having left Osaka, Japan on December 18, 2021. This epochal trip to five continents is part of the TEAM EXPO 2025 Co-Creation Challenge. This Expo program aims to accelerate the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
